Windmill Barn: 10 Reasons To Choose This Scottish Wedding Venue
Opening its doors in 2016, Windmill Barn is one of the newest converted barn wedding venues in Scotland.
This beautiful yet rustic property has room to seat 86 guests for your dinner reception.
And both indoor and outdoor options for your ceremony.
In addition to this you get exclusive use of the venue guaranteeing your privacy, and you can add your own decorations to really personalise it.
Let’s take a closer look at what a Windmill Barn wedding would be like.
Windmill Barn Location
In terms of location, Windmill Barn joins the ranks of conveniently located wedding venues in Fife.
It occupies a beautiful spot on the banks of the River Forth, approximately 5 miles west of Dunfermline.
Edinburgh is the closest city at 20 miles away, however Stirling, Perth, and Glasgow can all be driven from in less than 45 minutes.
When you arrive you will find reasonable parking, which can accommodate up to 20 guest cars.
There is additional space for event staff vehicles such as the caterers.
And if you would like to put on transportation, large coach access is not a problem.
Windmill Barn Setting
If you are looking for somewhere with a relaxed atmosphere, then look no further than Windmill Barn.
Its countryside setting really is very peaceful, and typical of most converted barns it’s less formal and more carefree.
The owners do have their house on site, however they are very much a part of the organising team so it’s safe to call this an exclusive use wedding venue.
Access can be granted the day before so that you can setup, and the day after if you need to remove any personal items.
The current owners spent years converting the blue roofed cottage and barn, into a beautiful modern home for themselves.
However it was only recently that they converted the red roofed barn into a wedding venue.
There goal was to create an attractive space, where all you needed to add was food, drink, and of course guests.
Although you are free to decorate the venue as you wish.
You will only have access to the entrance hall of the house, however the red roofed barn, courtyard and grounds are all yours.
Windmill Barn Accommodation
There is no onsite accommodation at Windmill Barn, however with Edinburgh in such close proximity finding something suitable won’t be a problem.
A deal has been struck with the Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry, which is only 20 minutes away and will provide you and your guests with preferential rates.
The Adamson Hotel which is just outside Dunfermline is also a possibility, if you are looking for something closer and cheaper.
There are several other options in the area from wooden lodges to cheap B&Bs, depending on your requirements.
Windmill Barn Ceremony
Most people choose to get married outside at Windmill Barn.
There’s a lovely terrace in the courtyard which overlooks the pond.
Although this isn’t your only option, and there are a number of pretty spots in the grounds.
A small marquee can be put up to protect your guests from the elements, and wooden benches are included in the price.
If the weather turns against you or if you would rather get married indoors, the leg of the converted barn is a wonderfully rustic alternative.
It can seat up to 80 guests reasonably comfortably.
Windmill Barn Reception
For your dinner reception Windmill Barn can seat up to 86 guests, and comes complete with rustic wooden tables and a variety of wooden chairs.
There are toilets and a kitchen at one end, and a dance floor at the other end.
Heating and lighting are included in the price, and it is possible to fit up to 120 evening guests.
Other little goodies are also thrown in, such as some barrels, a vintage blackboard, and a PA system.
With regards to your drinks reception, this can be had outside in the courtyard if the weather is nice, or inside the barn if the weather is not.
Windmill Barn Catering
As with most converted barns, the catering is outsourced at Windmill Barn.
There are 5 fantastic caterers from which you can choose, and they represent a variety of different prices and styles:
- Delicious Catering.
- Edinburgh Catering Company.
- St Andrews Event Catering.
- King Boar Catering.
- Bespoke Angels with Bagpipes.
All of these suppliers can provide a cash bar, and if you would like to bring your own drinks, none of them charge a corkage fee.
You can also hire a company not listed to provide a mobile bar if you wish.
Windmill Barn Grounds
There are 7 acres to explore at Windmill Barn, and the River Forth can be walked to in just a few minutes.
You probably wont see the river from the barn because of the dense woodland, but it’s definitely worth taking a stroll down to the banks.
When it comes to your wedding photographs there is plenty of beautiful scenery to act as a fantastic backdrop, and of course the traditional rustic features typically found at converted barns.
The barn interiors also have plenty of natural light due to the large windows, so if it starts to rain you will be able to get some great indoor shots too.
Windmill Barn Unique Feature
In addition to the lovely courtyard, Windmill Barn also has its own little pond.
It’s a really nice feature and really adds to the relaxed country atmosphere.
There’s also a fence surrounding the entire property, which makes this place feel very private and secluded.
Characteristics I think most people would like for their wedding day.
