Kinross House: 10 Reasons To Choose This Scottish Wedding Venue
Kinross House is without question one of the most opulent wedding venues in Scotland.
Dating back to the 17th century, it has recently undergone an extensive renovation program, returning the Palladian mansion to its former glory.
Fourteen luxury ensuite bedrooms are complimented by an endless number of exquisite reception rooms.
And the walled garden with views over Loch Leven is absolutely ideal for a marquee.
Could this be Scotlands best wedding venue?
Let’s take a closer look at what a Kinross House wedding would be like.
Kinross House Location
Wedding venues in Perth and Kinross tend to be very convenient in terms of access, due to their central location.
Kinross House is situated 18 miles south of Perth, and can be driven to in approximately 25 minutes.
In addition to this four other Scottish cities can be travelled from in less than 1 hour.
This could be ideal if you have guests coming from all over the country.
When you arrive you will find ample onsite parking, and large vehicle access is not a problem if you are considering putting on transportation.
Kinross House Setting
Sir William Bruce undoubtedly chose to build his architectural masterpiece where he did, because the scenery is absolutely spectacular.
The mansion is surrounded by beautiful gardens and expansive parkland, with Loch Leven acting as a dramatic backdrop.
It’s a wonderfully tranquil place to spend time.
It’s also a very private place, with Kinross House only being available as an exclusive use wedding venue.
You and your guests will be transported back in time, as you experience sights once enjoyed by some of Scotlands most prominent historical figures.
And because the house is not open to the public, it’s an experience that not many people get to enjoy.
Construction of Kinross House commenced in 1685, with the goal of creating Scotlands first neoclassical Palladian mansion.
Sir William Bruce was the owner and the architect, who had become very wealthy acting as the Scottish architect for King Charles II.
The Royal Palace of Holyrood being one of his most famous projects.
In 2011 the Kinross Estate was bought by its current owner, and taken through a two year restoration project, for which they won a number of awards.
The mansion is spread over four floors, with every room full of art and antiques, and enjoying fantastic views over the gardens.
It genuinely is a place in which you could entertain Royalty, and is easily one of the most beautiful country houses in Scotland.
Kinross House Accommodation
There are 14 luxury bedrooms at Kinross House, which means you can accommodate up to 28 guests.
Each of the bedrooms has been individually designed, and comes complete with an ensuite bathroom and beautiful views over the estate.
If you require further accommodation there’s the fantastic Kinross Coach House, which has also been newly refurbished and has 10 beautiful ensuite bedrooms sleeping up to 20 guests.
So that takes the Kinross Estate total to 24 bedrooms, sleeping up to 48 guests.
Kinross House Ceremony
You will have the option of both an indoor and an outdoor ceremony at Kinross House.
The Grand Salon is the most popular indoor choice, with its beautiful artwork and fantastic views over the gardens.
This room can seat as many as 200 guests, but there are more intimate options if you would prefer.
Outside you have the spectacular walled garden, which would give your guests panoramic views towards Lochleven Castle.
A marquee can also be put up on the lawn, to give you some shelter from the elements.
Kinross House Reception
You can have your dinner reception in the formal Dining Room, which has a beautiful ceiling painting.
However this room can only seat 28 guests, and sadly they no longer allow dancing in the house.
Your best option is to put up a marquee on the lawn overlooking the loch.
There is space for a 400 person marquee here, and access points for electricity, water, and even WIFI.
This will allow your guests to enjoy the gardens, the views, and the mansion as a backdrop.
Your drinks reception can be had in either the walled garden, or in the Reception Hall.
Kinross House Catering
If you choose to have your dinner reception inside Kinross House, then their own chef will create the perfect menu for you.
However for marquee weddings there are four outside caterers from which you can make your selection:
- Heritage Portfolio.
- Wild Thyme.
There is a professional kitchen inside the mansion, which is suitable for catering to 400 guests.
And whilst you cannot bring your own alcohol, your chosen caterer will be happy to setup a comprehensive bar for you.
A full Scottish breakfast is also provided for all overnight guests.
Kinross House Grounds
There are 100 acres of formal gardens, pastureland, and woodland at Kinross House.
In addition to this you have the 14 square kilometre Loch Leven, the largest loch in the Scottish Lowlands, which was declared a National Nature Reserve in 1964.
The formal gardens were actually planted 10 years before construction started on the house, and in the distance you will see Lochleven Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned.
It is the perfect place for enjoying the outdoors, and when it comes to your wedding photographs, picturesque backdrops can be found around every corner.

Available separately from the mansion, the Coach House at Kinross House is actually very popular for weddings too.
It has a fantastic Hall which can seat up to 60 guests for a dinner reception, and a beautiful courtyard which is ideal for relaxing outdoors.
