Kinkell Byre is one of the most unique barn wedding venues in Scotland.
It’s located on the coast just east of St Andrews, an area which is usually reserved for top golf courses, and enjoys the most spectacular views out to sea.
The barn itself has six interconnecting spaces, which provide incredible versatility and customisability.
And in addition to this there are virtually no restrictions on suppliers, enabling you to create the day of your dreams.
Let’s take a closer look at what a Kinkell Byre wedding would be like.
Kinkell Byre Location
There are some wonderful wedding venues in Fife.
Probably because it’s such a scenic part of Scotland.
It’s also reasonably easy to access, with St Andrews only 2 miles up the road.
Dundee is the closet city at 15 miles away, with a journey time of approximately 30 minutes.
Perth and Edinburgh can also be driven from in 60 minutes and 90 minutes respectively.
On arrival you will find a large carpark at the front of the building, which is ideal for your guests vehicles.
There’s also great access and turning space for coaches, if you are planning to put on transport.
Kinkell Byre Setting

First of all this is an exclusive use wedding venue, so you will have absolute privacy on your special day.
But it’s not just the privacy you choose this place for, it’s the wonderful scenery and tranquil atmosphere it provides.
Surrounded by some of the worlds best golf courses and the rolling Scottish countryside, you will also have panoramic sea views which make an outdoor ceremony very appealing.
It is without question a fabulous setting for a wedding.
Kinkell Byre

Parts of Kinkell Byre actually date back to the 18th century, with stones from the Kinkell Castle ruin used in its early construction.
Today it functions solely as an events space, with its charming and rustic character providing the perfect blank canvas for your wedding.
There are six interlinking areas which can be used virtually in anyway you want, and you will have access the day before to setup.
And because of the barns size, you will be able to have separate rooms for different parts of the day.
Which means no having to move furniture around after your ceremony, or before your first dance.
Kinkell Byre Accommodation

There is onsite accommodation at Kinkell House, which is right beside the barn.
However this is the family home, and they rent 3 double ensuite bedrooms in a B&B guesthouse fashion.
I’m not sure how suitable this would be for the bridal party, but perhaps some of your guests would like it.
Alternatively St Andrews is only 5 minutes away, and it provides an extensive range of accommodation types for every budget.
Although very expensive, the Old Course Hotel is especially nice.
Kinkell Byre Ceremony

Religious, civil, and humanist ceremonies are all welcome at Kinkell Byre.
And if you are lucky enough to get some nice weather, the outdoor possibilities are fantastic.
How about facing out to sea, giving your guests the most spectacular vista?
Should the weather turn or if you would rather get married indoors, Area 2 inside the barn is the most popular option.
This rustic yet blank canvas space is 150 square meters, and can seat as many as 200 guests.
Area 4 is also used for ceremonies, which is similar in size but has a longer narrower shape.
Ideal for creating an aisle.
Either option has fantastic potential though.
Kinkell Byre Reception

When it comes to your drinks reception Area 3, which is a long corridor running alongside Area 1 (reception) and Area 2 (ceremony), is the ideal space.
It has a quirky little bar and plenty of room for comfy sofas and tables.
Your dinner reception can then be had in Area 1, which has over 400 square meters of space.
It has a nice wooden floor and really gives you the flexibility to create something truly unique.
In terms of capacity you can comfortably seat 200 guests, and not have to move a single table to create a dance floor.
Or if you have an enormous guest list, remove the dance floor and you can seat as many as 300 people.
Kinkell Byre Catering

When it comes to your catering, Kinkell Byre will let you choose your own supplier.
This is quite unusual for wedding venues in Scotland, as most of them tend to select the caterer for you.
They can make recommendations, especially with regards to who has worked at the barn before.
But other than that you have complete freedom.
The bar is a different story though, and you must use Events Bars St Andrews.
You can however bring your own wine, and there is no corkage fee.
Kinkell Byre Grounds

You don’t just get exclusive use of Kinkell Byre, you also get the surrounding grounds too.
And although they are not exactly extensive, they are a lovely place for a gentle stroll.
There’s a nice south facing garden where you can enjoy the outdoors.
Most importantly though, there are some lovely spots for your wedding photographs.
