Guardswell Farm: 10 Reasons To Choose This Scottish Wedding Venue
Completed in Spring 2017 Guardswell Farm is a newly converted steading, and one of the most interesting barn wedding venues in Scotland.
The original agricultural buildings have been given a modern makeover, whilst still retaining their historic features.
And can now be used to host wedding ceremonies and receptions.
In addition to the versatile function spaces, there is also a range of accommodation including a beautiful farmhouse for the bridal party.
Let’s take a closer look at what a Guardswell Farm wedding would be like.
Guardswell Farm Location
Guardswell Farm is in a great location, right between Perth and Dundee.
With the exception of Inverness, every Scottish city can be driven from in less than 90 minutes.
And Perth and Dundee can be managed in approximately 20 minutes.
When you arrive you will find plenty of onsite parking for your guests.
However if you want to put on transportation, the maximum coach size which can make it up the twisty drive is a 29 seater.
There are some great barn wedding venues in Perth and Kinross, with Guardswell being the newest addition and definitely worth your consideration.
Guardswell Farm Setting
The owners of Guardswell Farm have tried to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Spectacular panoramic views definitely add to the tranquility, and the rolling Scottish countryside will encourage you to spend time outdoors.
Only one wedding is hosted per weekend, and assuming you also take the accommodation then this is an exclusive use wedding venue.
You will also get access the day before your wedding to setup, and the day after your wedding to remove everything.
If you are looking for a rustic country setting, then this place is going to be ideal.
As the farming landscape changed in Scotland, the steading at Guardswell Farm became unsuitable for modern agriculture.
Fortunately though the owners were able to adapt, and give it a new lease of life as an events space.
Ideally for creative types and DIY weddings, the buildings have been given a comprehensive makeover retaining their character but adding modern Scandinavian influences.
Original stone walls are now complimented by large glass windows, and with the property facing south the rooms are flooded with natural light.
The main spaces on offer are the Cattle Court, Granary, and Catering Kitchen.
And there are also male and female toilets.
Guardswell Farm Accommodation
There is a range of accommodation at Guardswell Farm, including the Farmhouse (sleeps 10) which would be ideal for the bridal party.
In addition to this there is a lovely little Cottage (sleeps 4), and three Nordic Style Huts (sleeps 2) scattered around the grounds.
Each of them has either been newly refurbished or recently built, and they all have quirky features such as a cosy kitchen with AGA, wood burning stoves, and decks to enjoy the views.
For the truly adventurous there is also a Camping Field, which can sleep up to 30 happy campers.
Guardswell Farm Ceremony
You will have the option of both and indoor ceremony and an outdoor ceremony at Guardswell Farm.
The long Granary with its high ceilings, exposed beams, and white walls makes the perfect indoor choice.
It has large south facing windows flooding the space with natural light, and nice modern wooden floors for you to walk down the aisle on.
Given how picturesque this place is and assuming the weather is nice, the lawn in front of the steading would also be a spectacular spot for your ceremony.
Your guests would have incredible views over the patchwork landscape.
Guardswell Farm Reception
With regards to your drinks reception, the lawn in front of the steading is an ideal location assuming the weather is nice.
There’s a large covered veranda too, just in case your guests need some shelter.
Your dinner reception can then be had in the Cattle Court, which is a large space with a triple apex roof, stone walls, exposed beams, and a sprung dance floor.
Large south facing windows, which lead to the veranda, means the room is nice and bright, and you can comfortably seat up to 150 guests.
Tables, chairs, and benches are all included in the price too.
Guardswell Farm Catering
You are free to choose any caterer you wish at Guardswell Farm, although they can make recommendations of local suppliers who they know to be good.
There is a full catering kitchen inside the steading, which comes complete with stainless steel worktops, double gas oven, pot wash sink, and walk in fridge.
In addition to this there is a Farm Bar, which is fully stocked and staffed, and can be on a cash or prepaid basis.
You can also bring your own wine for a small corkage fee.
Guardswell Farm Grounds
There are 150 acres of grounds to enjoy at Guardswell Farm, made up of rolling grass fields, wildflower bankings, and dense evergreen woodland.
For the animal lover there’s grazing sheep, free range chickens, and pigs.
And there’s also a lovely vegetable garden.
The large open lawn in front of the steading is ideal for outdoor activities, and you can easily setup fire pits and an outdoor bar.
Most importantly the opportunity for great wedding photographs is ever present, with beautiful countryside and rustic barn features making the perfect backdrops.
Guardswell Farm Unique Feature
Guardswell Farm is so much more than just a wedding venue.
And perhaps if you extend your stay, you could take advantage of the other activities.
The catering kitchen is more commonly used as a cookery school, which could be great fun.
There’s also lots to be learnt outdoors such as: orchard care; pig husbandry; and foraged floristry.
