Greywalls: 10 Reasons To Choose This Wedding Venue
If you like golf, then you are going to love Greywalls.
Originally built as a holiday home by a keen golfer, it overlooks the 18th green at Muirfield.
The elegant Edwardian country house was first designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, and the stunning walled gardens created by Gertrude Jekyll.
Famous guests over the years include King Edward VII.
There are 23 ensuite bedrooms available and some wonderful reception rooms, all of which have the most spectacular views.
Sounds like it could be a fantastic venue for a wedding.
Let’s take a closer look.
Greywalls Location
Located right on the edge of Muirfield championship golf course, Greywalls has panoramic vistas over the manicured greens and the Firth of Forth.
If you sit at the bottom of the garden, you will actually be a stones throw from people teeing off.
Edinburgh is less than 25 miles away, making this a convenient location if you live in Scotlands capital.
And despite being so close to a major city, once you arrive you will find seclusion and tranquility.
It’s the perfect place to relax, and spend time with family and friends.
Greywalls Exclusive Use
Although Greywalls does function as a normal hotel, you can take the entire estate exclusively if you’d like.
This would give you and your guests complete privacy, at one of Scotlands most charming and intimate country houses.
Just imagine strolling through the stunning walled gardens, sipping champagne, and enjoying the views with no strangers interrupting your peace.
It does of course come at a price, however when you consider all the included facilities, it would make for an incredible weekend.
Greywalls
Originally built in 1901, Greywalls retains much of its charm and character, however it now has a high standard of modern facilities.
The ground floor has a number of interconnecting public rooms, which creates a lot of versatility and flexibility.
From elegant Drawing Rooms to delightful Dining Rooms, the house will provide an impressive backdrop to your celebrations.
You and your guests will be able to relax in understated comfort, have a drink at the cosy bar, and take a walk in the enchanting gardens.
It really is a beautiful setting for a wedding.
Greywalls Accommodation
There are 23 luxury bedrooms at Greywalls, all of which have ensuite bathrooms.
Nineteen of the rooms are doubles, and four of the rooms are singles.
Each of them has been individual designed, with its own unique decor and antique furniture.
As you can imagine, most of them have excellent views over Muirfield, the Firth of Forth, and the gardens.
Worth noting is that the six cottage rooms are not connected to the main house, however they are only 100 yards away.
If you require further accommodation, the Colonel’s House by the gates can sleep another 10 people.
It has 4 bedrooms, each of which has its own bathroom.
All this means you can extend the celebrations, and have breakfast with your family and friends the next day.
Greywalls Ceremony
There is a lot of flexibility when it comes to your ceremony at Greywalls.
A number of the rooms in the house can be used, each of which has historical decor, paintings, and antiques making them very romantic.
The most popular choice though is the Sun Room, overlooking the beautiful gardens.
It’s a charming and spacious room, with a relaxed atmosphere and lots of flexibility.
Floral displays can be arranged to your specifications too.
Better still, why not have your ceremony outdoors in the beautiful walled garden.
This part of Scotland tends to be a bit drier and sees a bit more sunshine.
Plus the gardens at Greywalls are absolutely stunning, and perfect for a wedding ceremony.
Greywalls Reception
Greywalls can cater for up to 50 guests in the mansion house, for your dinner reception.
The Main Dining Room, overlooking the 10th tee at Muirfield, is light and airy, and suitable for larger parties.
With the Original Dining Room, smaller and more intimate, and better suited for smaller gatherings.
The Main Hall is also a great space for your drinks reception.
Once your numbers go above 50, a marquee in the grounds is your best option.
And with gardens this beautiful, it also sounds like a great option.
Greywalls Catering
The catering at Greywalls is overseen by the legendary French Chef Albert Roux.
You may recognise the Roux name, as they are responsible for the UK’s first three Michelin Star restaurant.
Menus can be designed specifically for you, creating the atmosphere and cuisine you desire.
And it can be as relaxed or as formal as you wish.
There is also an exceptional wine cellar, with over 200 different wines to choose from.
Many of which are sensibly priced.
Greywalls Grounds
There is a lot to like about Greywalls, but the grounds you are going to love.
Four acres of beautifully kept walled gardens to explore and enjoy.
Just take a stroll through the tranquil pathways, and get lost in the stunning scenery.
Even the walls themselves are interesting shapes and sizes, in this charming period garden.
If you are feeling active there are two tennis courts, a croquet lawn, and a putting green to make use of.
And some nice sandy beaches are only minutes away.
There are also 10 golf courses within five miles of the hotel.
Greywalls Bridal Suite
If you choose to stay at Greywalls the night before your wedding, you will have the benefit of waking up in their Bridal Suite.
More commonly known as the Premium Spa Double room, it’s an excellent place for relaxing, getting ready, and enjoying your first glass of champagne.
