Glencorse House is a beautiful exclusive use country wedding venue, conveniently located less than ten miles south of Edinburgh.
It has a purpose built wedding marquee with solid wood floors and luxury toilets, which can comfortably seat up to 150 guests.
However what makes this place one of the most unique wedding venues in Scotland, is the wonderfully restored Glencorse Old Kirk which can be used for your ceremony.
Let’s take a closer look at what a Glencorse House wedding would be like.
Glencorse House Location
Wedding venues in Midlothian all have the benefit of close proximity to Edinburgh.
And many of them also enjoy beautiful country settings.
Glencorse House is nestled in the foothills of the Pentlands, not too far from the village of Penicuik.
Scotlands capital city is only 8 miles away, with a journey time of approximately 30 minutes.
And when you arrive you will find ample on site parking for your guests.
In addition to this large vehicle access is no problem, if you are considering putting on coach transportation.
Glencorse House Setting

Glencorse House has created something which is the polar opposite of a city centre hotel.
First of all you will be surrounded by beautiful countryside, which gives you a real sense of tranquility and offers a wonderful place for relaxation.
And secondly this is an exclusive use wedding venue, so it’s also a very private setting leaving you to spend quality time with just family and friends.
Just picture strolling through the lush parkland leading from Glencorse Old Kirk to the Marquee.
And enjoying a glass of champagne on the front lawn with your guests.
It’s an ideal setting for a wedding.
Glencorse House

Glencorse House is a relatively small privately owned Georgian mansion.
And although it provides a nice backdrop, you don’t actually get to use the interiors in any significant way.
If the weather is not behaving, the mansions Drawing Room and staircase can be used for your wedding photographs.
However that’s probably as big a role as the house will play.
What will play a big role on your wedding day is Glencorse Old Kirk, which is a beautifully restored 17th century church located within the grounds.
More on that later.
Glencorse House Accommodation

Sadly there is no accommodation option at Glencorse House, as the mansion is a family home.
However the village of Penicuik is only minutes away, and does offer a variety of hotels and B&Bs.
If you are looking for more options, a coach trip back to Edinburgh would be short and pleasant, and would of course give you access to all the accommodation the city has to offer.
Just be careful if you are getting married during the Edinburgh festival, as hotels get booked up quickly and tend to be more expensive.
Glencorse House Ceremony

This is why so many people choose to get married at Glencorse House; the Glencorse Old Kirk.
Sitting in a secluded little spot within the grounds, it spent many years as a ruin, but has since been carefully restored.
It was once the worship place of the famous Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, and now is an absolutely idyllic setting for a private wedding.
Religious, civil, and humanist ceremonies are all welcome, and you can seat up to 140 guests in this beautiful candlelit space.
Glencorse House Reception

If you are lucky enough to get some nice weather, your guests can walk up from Glencorse Old Kirk and enjoy a drinks reception on the lawn in front of the mansion.
Garden furniture can be setup too, so people can sit and relax.
When it’s time for your dinner reception, a state of the art marquee with a capacity for 150 guests will be waiting next to the house.
It comes complete with a feature bay window, solid wood floors, a permanent bar area, and of course luxury toilets.
In addition to this, five foot round tables and elegant Chiavari chairs are included in the price.

The catering is outsourced at Glencorse House to Blackberry Cuisine.
They are an award winning caterer with extensive wedding experience, and they also know and understand the venue well.
Dishes can be custom created, although there are set menus to help you choose.
And special dietary requirements and children can both be accommodated.
The caterers will also be responsible for running the fully stocked bar, which can be operated on a cash or open basis.
You can bring your own wine, for a corkage fee of £12 per bottle.
Glencorse House Grounds

Glencorse House is set in 20 acres of beautiful grounds, which includes an ornamental lake with Chinese bridge.
It’s a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors, and perhaps take a gentle stroll.
But more importantly it’s a fantastic place for wedding photographs.
As you can imagine the Chinese bridge is a favourite amongst wedding photographers, however there are numerous other beautiful backdrops to be found in close proximity to the house.
As said earlier, if the weather isn’t suitable for outdoor photographs, the Georgian mansion can be used instead.
Glencorse House Unique Feature
If you are worried about transporting elderly guests from the Glencorse Old Kirk to the Marquee, then worry no more.
Included in your wedding package is an electric golf buggy, which comes complete with a chauffeur driver.
Shuttle runs can be done back and forth to get people up the hill, and perhaps you might come up with another use for it too.
