Fifteen Ninety Nine gets its name from the year in which the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons was first founded.

The college use this magnificent building on Glasgow’s St. Vincent Street as their headquarters.

In more recent times it has become possible to hire out the venue, and its range of unique function suites, for events such as weddings.

So how does this place compare to other wedding venues in Scotland?

Let’s take a closer look at what a Fifteen Ninety Nine wedding would be like.

Fifteen Ninety Nine Location

Located right in the heart of Scotland’s largest city, Fifteen Ninety Nine joins the list of fantastic wedding venues in Glasgow.

I spent my student years at Strathclyde University, so I know just how great this area can be.

Don’t worry if you are from out of town either, there are plenty of hotels to choose from.

Just be sure to plan ahead with regards to transportation.

It can be very difficult to find parking in central Glasgow.

Given the number of function rooms available at Fifteen Ninety Nine, the first question I had was, how many events could be occurring at the same time?

Well the good news is, all weddings get exclusive use of the entire building.

So complete privacy for you, your family, and your friends.

The slight downside to this exclusivity is, you can only host your wedding on a Saturday or a Sunday.

This is because the building is used for other purposes during the week.

Fifteen Ninety Nine History

I always think a little bit of history adds to the charm and appeal of these old buildings.

But don’t worry, I will keep it brief.

As stated earlier, the College was founded in 1599 after James VI granted a charter to Peter Lowe (surgeon), Robert Hamilton (physician), and William Spang (apothecary).

This charter empowered them to examine all professing the art of surgery in Glasgow.

A few locations were occupied before they finally moved to St. Vincent Street in 1862.

Today with a membership of over 10,000, the College is the only multidisciplinary of its kind in the UK.

Sounds like a smart place to get married.

The exterior of the building is actually very attractive, with four large columns framing the main entrance.

You would be forgiven however, for not noticing the imposing facade, as the streets of Glasgow are lined with properties of this calibre.

Once inside you will find a collection of unique rooms, each individually styled with its own character.

Period features are to be found everywhere, and the whole place is very charming.

I will discuss your options for both ceremonies and receptions later, but lets just say at this point, there is the capacity for up to 100 guests.

In fact 150 guests for evening receptions.

Fifteen Ninety Nine Accommodation

Sadly there is no accommodation available at Fifteen Ninety Nine.

However they have strong links with a variety of local hotels, and can get you and your guests preferential rates.

All of the hotels are within walking distance of the venue, and some of them even have swimming pools.

Blythswood Square is on the list, and it has a particularly nice honeymoon suite.

Your best bet though, is to ask your wedding coordinator for the most up to date deals.

Fifteen Ninety Nine Ceremony

There are a number of room options for your ceremony, but the Princess Alexandra suite is definitely the best.

Licensed for civil ceremonies, it exudes elegance and beauty with its original chandeliers.

The suite is actually named after Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra, who became the College’s first Honorary Fellow in 1959.

Natural light from the large windows fills the soft coloured room, and there is even a Ladies Powder Room located just outside.

Up to 100 guests can be seated comfortably for your ceremony.

Fifteen Ninety Nine Reception

For your drinks reception, the Lower Library is perfect.

This striking room, full of traditional features, shelves thousands of books, many dating back to the 19th century.

It will come as no surprise that it was originally used for members to catch up on their reading.

In terms of your wedding meal, the largest and grandest suite is the College Hall.

This calibre of room is most often found in large stately mansions, not in city centre locations.

Purpose built in 1892 for College ceremonies, it has a beautiful Victorian fireplace, sweeping mahogany staircase, and lovely period chandeliers.

It even retains its original stained glass windows by John James Burnet.

A truly stunning room with a capacity of up to 100 people.
