Drumtochty Castle: 10 Reasons To Choose This Scottish Wedding Venue

I seem to be drawn to exclusive use wedding venues, especially when they are old and historic.
Drumtochty Castle falls into this category perfectly.
In fact my sister considered it for her wedding, before settling on Logie Country House.
A few of my friends have been wedding guests at Drumtochty Castle, and they said it was one of the best wedding venues in Scotland.
So after some careful research and a full tour of the property, I think I am in a good position to share with you what makes this place so special.
Let’s take a closer look at what a Drumtochty Castle wedding would be like.
Drumtochty Castle Location
Situated just 30 miles from Aberdeen, and only 12 miles from Stonehaven, Drumtochty Castle occupies the most idyllic location, in the beautiful Scottish countryside.
It’s hard to imagine a more magical setting, especially if you opt for a winter wedding, and you are lucky enough to get some snow.
One of the major benefits of wedding venues in Aberdeenshire.
The estate offers plenty of guest accommodation, however coach journeys back to the city would be quick and easy.
There is also ample onsite parking.

Unlike so many other wedding venues, should you choose to get married at Drumtochty Castle, then you will get the entire estate to yourself.
Exclusive use may not be a priority for you, and it does come at a cost, but I really love the idea of privacy.
Just imagine you, your family, and your friends, living the landed gentry lifestyle for the weekend.
Very Downton Abbey!
Drumtochty Castle

Originally built in 1812, this neo-gothic style castellated mansion is hidden away in a wild woodland glen.
It has been used for a number of purposes over the years, including as a base for the exiled Norwegian government during World War II, and as a boarding school.
Now repurposed as a fairytale wedding venue, the building is classic and elegant, with a relaxed and historic atmosphere.
Your guests will definitely be wowed by both the exterior and the interior.
Drumtochty Castle Accommodation

The castle itself can accommodate up to 22 guests, in individually designed bedrooms, each one comfortable, spacious, and elegant.
However if you require more space, the estate can offer other options.
In fact as many as 62 additional guests can be accommodated within the wings, and in other locations on the grounds.
This brings the bedroom count up to that of a medium sized hotel, which could come in handy if you are planning a large wedding, and don’t want to leave anybody out.
Drumtochty Castle Ceremony

Drumtochty Castle can offer you a number of options, when it comes to your ceremony.
One of the reception rooms within the castle is a possibility.
Or if you are willing to brave the elements, somewhere on the castle grounds, or on the edge of the loch.
The most popular choice is St. Palladius church, which is a short carriage ride to the castle gates.
Here your guests can be welcomed by the tune of the bagpipes.
Whatever your choice, I think they would all prove to be captivating.
Drumtochty Castle Reception

After your ceremony, you and your guests can enjoy a glass of champagne, in one of Drumtochty Castle’s regal reception rooms.
Weather permitting, you could also stand outside on the lawn.
You have two potential room options for dinner.
The elegant dinning room, for smaller more intimate weddings.
Or the magnificent ballroom, which can cater for up to 120 guests.
Either way, you will enjoy a sumptuous banquet, with fine wines, and the best service.

Drumtochty Castle can offer you a range of activities, during your stay.
Of course there are a number of golf courses in the area, should you desire a pre wedding 18 holes.
I know that’s something I’ve done on a few occasions.
Or you could experience some traditional country estate sports.
How about some fishing on the private trout lochs?
Or perhaps some clay pigeon shooting in the grounds.
Shooting parties can also be arranged, but that’s probably a bit much for a wedding weekend.
