Comrie Croft: 10 Reasons To Choose This Wedding Venue
If you are looking for a wedding venue which is a little bit different, then Comrie Croft is definitely worth considering.
Originally created as a relaxed place for camping, hosteling, mountain biking, and walking, this award winning green destination is now available for ceremonies and receptions.
There’s loads of accommodation and huge amounts of flexibility on offer, allowing you to create your vision without limitation.
The owners have branded Comrie Croft as a “do it yourself” style of wedding venue, and given its popularity, they seem to have hit upon something.
Let’s take a closer look.
Comrie Croft Location
Comrie Croft is located right in the centre of Scotland, not too far from Gleneagles hotel.
This is a beautiful part of the country, which has great access from most major cities.
Perth is the closest at 23 miles away, although the roads are slow so it’s about a 40 minute drive.
Both Edinburgh and Glasgow are less than 60 miles away, and can be driven from in under 90 minutes.
When you arrive you will find parking for over 100 cars, and a driveway which is accessible by large coaches.
Comrie Croft Exclusive Use
There are parts of Comrie Croft which are open to the public all year round, such as the Tea Garden Cafe and the walking/mountain biking trails.
However you will get all of the accommodation and the reception barn exclusively, for your two night stay.
This will give you plenty of privacy, and the ability to make the place your own.
If you do want to use some of the public spaces, Comrie Croft will do what they can to close off the area.
Given the size of the place and the amount of accommodation, you could almost have your own “wedding festival”.
Comrie Croft
Comrie Croft is really a wedding venue for people who are looking for something alternative.
A place which isn’t too formal, where you can relax, be yourself, and do your own thing.
The 200 year old farmstead has an accommodation block and a barn, surrounding a beautiful courtyard.
But it’s very much a DIY venue, where you will be left to do most of the coordinating yourself.
This blank canvas style won’t appeal to everyone, but personally I think Comrie Croft has some serious potential.
Comrie Croft Accommodation
Comrie Croft has vast amounts of simple accommodation.
The Steading, which was converted into a hostel in 1995, can sleep up to 58 people.
It has six ensuite bedrooms, five bedrooms with separate bathrooms, a large kitchen, and some comfy lounge areas including a dining section.
Of course to squeeze in that many people, all of the rooms have multiple beds.
The building is spacious and warm with fresh linen provided, but you will have to make the beds and bring your own towels.
There is also the Farmhouse, which can sleep up to 16 people.
It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining kitchen, and a lounge.
Plus if you are feeling really adventurous, there is the option to camp too.
Comrie Croft Ceremony
There are a number of potential outdoor locations for your ceremony at Comrie Croft.
The estate is fairly large, and the countryside very picturesque.
A popular choice is the Farmstead Courtyard, which provides you with a little bit of shelter from the wind.
Failing that, or in the event of bad weather, the Barn is a lovely indoor alternative.
Moveable pew seating for 100 people is available, or perhaps you would prefer the 200 matching chairs.
Comrie Croft Reception
The Barn at Comrie Croft was given a makeover in 2014, adding insulation and partial lining with wood and straw bales.
It can seat up to 200 people for dinner, and creates an atmosphere which is both rustic and relaxed.
You will need to be prepared for a very blank canvas, with heating not even included in the basic price.
However this does allow you to add your own decorations, and create exactly what you want.
It is also possible to put up a marquee somewhere on the grounds.
But given how good the Barn is, I can’t imagine you would want to do this.
Comrie Croft Grounds
Comrie Croft is primarily a place for people to come and enjoy the Scottish outdoors.
Unsurprisingly then, they have some beautiful grounds to explore.
In fact the farm is over 230 acres of fields and woodland, and it connects into 87 km of walking/mountain biking trails.
There are some great way marked walks to try out, and you can even hire bikes and use the Bike Skills Park.
Other activities are available too, such as outdoor survival training, quad biking, fishing, and high ropes.
Could be great fun, especially if you plan to spend a few days there.
Comrie Croft Wedding Photographs
The grounds at Comrie Croft are good for more than just enjoying the outdoors, they are also excellent for wedding photography.
Outdoor pictures tend to be the best, as you can make use of the natural light and the beautiful countryside.
Your photographer will be spoilt for choice, when it comes to finding scenic and interesting backdrops.
One word of caution though, the barn is quite dark so your wedding photographer will need to be skilled in the art of artificial light, for the indoor shots.
Comrie Croft Catering
The owners of Comrie Croft don’t want to get involved in the catering, however they can recommend a list of local suppliers.
In terms of facilities at the venue, the Steading kitchen is reasonably well equipped.
It has a commercial gas range, double oven, hobs, microwave, fridge, and freezer.
There is also a commercial dishwasher and a large range of crockery and cutlery.
I would suggest choosing a caterer who is familiar with the venue, so they know the lie of the land.
