Cluny Castle: 10 Reasons To Choose This Scottish Wedding Venue
Are you looking for beautiful castle wedding venues in Scotland?
Well if you live in Aberdeen, then Cluny Castle is definitely worth considering.
Dating back to the 14th century, this architectural masterpiece comes complete with its own private chapel seating up to 100 guests.
There’s the fantastic Tenants Hall which can be used for mid sized wedding receptions, and several terrific marquee sites if you are looking for maximum space.
In addition to this, an extensive refurbishment program due for completion in 2018 will open up overnight accommodation for up to 24 guests.
Let’s take a closer look at what a Cluny Castle wedding would be like.
Cluny Castle Location
Cluny Castle joins a long list of wonderful wedding venues in Aberdeenshire.
I live in this part of Scotland and it really is very picturesque, especially as you travel east towards the Highlands.
Aberdeen is only 20 miles away from the estate, with a journey time of approximately 40 minutes.
And the drive will certainly feel worth it, when you arrive at the grand main gates and travel down the tree lined driveway.
There’s plenty of onsite parking for your guests, and although there is an entrance height restriction, single decker coaches will be fine.
Cluny Castle Setting
Cluny Castle is surrounded by acres of beautiful parkland, which really creates an atmosphere of tranquility and seclusion.
And because this is an exclusive use wedding venue, you will have complete privacy for the duration of your stay.
The castle and grounds will provide your guests with a real sense of occasion, ideal if you are looking for a fairytale like venue.
It’s an enchanting place for a wedding.
Dating back to the 14th century, Cluny Castle was expanded in 1820 creating the structure you see today.
Its name comes from the Gaelic word for meadow, and it still functions as a family home.
Unlike many properties of its type, the castle is not open to the public but can be hired for exclusive events.
In fact the movie The Queen starring Helen Mirren was actually filmed here.
Although you won’t get access to all the rooms on your wedding day, a selection of reception rooms are available such as the Dining Room, Drawing Room, and Tenants Hall.
In addition to this you will have access to the spectacular private Chapel, a self contained apartment, and a series of luxurious bedrooms.
Cluny Castle Accommodation
Currently Cluny Castle are expanding and refurbishing their accommodation, which should all be complete by 2018.
Once done they will be able to sleep up to 24 guests in 12 luxurious bedrooms.
Five of those bedrooms are in the self contained West Wing Apartment, which comes complete with a kitchen and a sitting room.
This area would be ideal as a Bridal Suite, offering a private space for preparation and pre ceremony drinks.
The remaining seven bedrooms will be on the top floor, and each of them will have their own ensuite bathroom.
Cluny Castle Ceremony
Cluny Castle is licensed for religious, civil, and humanist ceremonies in its own beautiful chapel.
There are a number of wedding venues in Scotland which offer private chapels, but very few of them have a capacity for 100 guests.
From the stained glass windows to the dark oak pews, this place is absolutely spectacular.
It’s even attached to the castle, so the bride can come straight from the Bridal Suite and through a private entrance.
Guests can enter from the external courtyard.
Cluny Castle Reception
After the ceremony your drinks reception can be had outside on the sweeping lawns.
Followed by your dinner reception in the Tenants Hall, located beneath the Chapel.
This room has stained glass windows, parquet flooring, and seating for up to 80 guests.
It’s a fantastic space for dinner and dancing.
If you need a larger capacity, there are some great sites for putting up a marquee.
How about a vintage style marquee with panoramic roof, using the castle as a backdrop?
Intimate dinner receptions for up to 24 guests can also be had in the Dining Room.
Cluny Castle Catering
Cluny Castle outsource the catering to a handpicked panel of suppliers:
- Country Flavours.
- Hickory Catering.
They all have fantastic reputations, and whichever one you choose will create and deliver fabulous food with first class service.
Locally sourced produce is used whenever possible, and bespoke menus can be developed if you wish.
The caterers will also be responsible for providing any alcoholic drinks at your wedding.
Cluny Castle Grounds
There are 200 acres of landscaped parkland to explore at Cluny Castle.
These include manicured lawns, picturesque ponds, and woodland trails.
Ideal for enjoying outdoor drinks, or even going for a relaxing stroll.
When it comes to your wedding photos, rest assured that stunning and secluded backdrops can be found everywhere.
In fact the grounds are often used for private photoshoots.
And should the weather turn, the castle interiors can act as perfect indoor alternatives.
Cluny Castle Unique Feature
The private Chapel at Cluny Castle is almost certainly its biggest unique feature.
However since I’ve already mentioned that, I’m going to go with a fireworks display.
There are other venues which provide this facility, but due to noise regulations most cannot.
Just imagine drawing your evening to a close, with all your guests stood outside watching a massive fireworks show.
Could be a fantastic grand finale.
