And the rural location gives you a real sense of isolation and tranquility.

The setting at Carfraemill is one of hills, forests, and fields of grass.

It’s a very pretty place and the views are fantastic, especially if you go to the hill top.

You can book parts of the venue exclusively, such as the bedrooms and some of the reception rooms, to give yourself that added bit of privacy.

However this is not an exclusive use wedding venue, and a number of areas will remain open to the public.

Whilst this won’t intrude on your day, it is a popular place for locals to have dinner, so be prepared to see other people.

Carfraemill

There is evidence to suggest that the Mill of Carfrae existed back in the 12th century, with William de Morville the Lord of Lauderdale amongst the first owners.

During the 19th century the building most likely functioned as an inn, and horse drawn coaches would have frequently stopped as they travelled from Edinburgh to Kelso.

Today it is family owned by local farmers, and as well as being a wedding venue it is also a hotel and a restaurant.

There are four main areas for hosting your celebrations: the Marquee, the Campbell Room, the Gallery, and the Hill Top.

Which of these you choose will largely depend on your numbers and the style of wedding you desire.

Carfraemill Accommodation

There are 10 bedrooms at Carfraemill, which can sleep up to 24 guests.

Two of the rooms are family suites, each having a second room with adult size bunkbeds.

The remaining eight rooms are split between doubles and twins.

All of them have ensuite bathrooms, and are decorated in a country lodge style.

As you can imagine the views from the windows are lovely, and the rooms are cosy with stylish decor.

If you require further accommodation, there are 2 cottages one mile from the hotel.

They sit high on the hill, have recently been refurbished, and both have 2 bedrooms sleeping 4 people.

Cottage guests are welcome to come down to the mill for breakfast.

Carfraemill Ceremony

Carfraemill is licensed for civil, religious, and humanist ceremonies both at the mill and up on the hill.

In the main building you have the choice of the 18 seat Gallery for an intimate wedding.

Or in front of the fire in the lovely oak panelled Campbell Room, which can comfortably seat 140 guests.

Moving outside you have the 300 seater Marquee, which is connected to the hotel by a covered walkway.

And finally you can make use of the Hill Top, located one mile from the hotel on the owners farm.

You can put up a marquee, a tent, or a yurt on this spot, and take advantage of the stunning views.

For your reception Carfraemill can offer you the same four options as for your ceremony.

The Marquee connected to the hotel is the most popular choice, which at its full capacity can seat 300 people for dinner.

With full lining, a large dance floor, and a bandstand, it’s the ideal place for a celebration.

The decor is neutral so you can dress it as you wish, and there is a fitted bar plus catering equipment.

Inside the mill you have the Gallery with its country chic style and space for 18 people.

And then there’s the Campbell Room with its sprung dance floor and proper bar.

This room is full of character and can seat up to 140 guests for dinner.

Lastly you can have virtually the same Marquee, but moved up onto the Hill Top.

This is the most expensive option but does give you spectacular views and complete privacy.
