Balmule House is a luxury boutique hotel, located a short drive from Edinburgh, in the Kingdom of Fife.

The 500 year old mansion has been meticulously restored, offering luxurious accommodation combined with a rich heritage.

Although it does function as a normal hotel, it can also be hired exclusively for special events.

The special event we are interested in of course, is a wedding.

So how does this place compare with other wedding venues in Scotland?

Let’s take a closer look at what a Balmule House wedding would be like.

Balmule House Location

Balmule House is really well located, with regards to access.

Edinburgh is only 24 miles away, with Sterling and Perth, 23 miles and 27 miles respectively.

Even Glasgow is within commutable range at 43 miles.

This would make transporting guests and supplies very convenient, from a number of major cities.

And once you arrive, all the tranquility of the Scottish countryside is there to be enjoyed.

You will enter the estate along a picturesque tree lined drive, which leads right up to the mansion house.

There is plenty of available parking too.

As far as wedding venues in Fife go, this one makes a fantastic first impression.

Balmule House Setting

Privacy isn’t a major priority for everyone.

In fact I know some venues, which can host as many as three weddings at the same time.

But if you like seclusion, then Balmule House could be a great choice.

The entire mansion, bedrooms and public rooms, plus the gardens and grounds can be taken over exclusively.

This could be for a single evening, or for an entire weekend.

Just you, your family, and your friends.

Sounds perfect.

Parts of the house actually date back to the 15th century, when it was first built as a defensive structure.

The wealthy Wardlaws family, who played a key role in establishing St. Andrews University, were the original owners.

Over the years the estate changed hands, with each successive family adding their own personal touches and character.

More recently, the entire building was meticulously and sympathetically restored.

The goal was to retain the period features, whilst adding modern conveniences.

The results are beautiful, with the perfect balance of old elegance, and modern luxury.

You will have great fun exploring the opulent reception rooms, and the bedrooms are absolutely stunning.

It’s very cosy and much more personal, which is ideal for a wedding.

There are 9 bedrooms in total, and each of them is luxurious, with its own style and character.

Two classic rooms share a bathroom, two further classic rooms have private bathrooms, and then there are four superior rooms with ensuite’s.

Lastly you have the bridal suite.

They are all beautifully decorated, and have excellent views over the estate.

Your guests will love it.
