Balmule House: 10 Reasons To Choose This Scottish Wedding Venue
Balmule House is a luxury boutique hotel, located a short drive from Edinburgh, in the Kingdom of Fife.
The 500 year old mansion has been meticulously restored, offering luxurious accommodation combined with a rich heritage.
Although it does function as a normal hotel, it can also be hired exclusively for special events.
The special event we are interested in of course, is a wedding.
So how does this place compare with other wedding venues in Scotland?
Let’s take a closer look at what a Balmule House wedding would be like.
Balmule House Location
Balmule House is really well located, with regards to access.
Edinburgh is only 24 miles away, with Sterling and Perth, 23 miles and 27 miles respectively.
Even Glasgow is within commutable range at 43 miles.
This would make transporting guests and supplies very convenient, from a number of major cities.
And once you arrive, all the tranquility of the Scottish countryside is there to be enjoyed.
You will enter the estate along a picturesque tree lined drive, which leads right up to the mansion house.
There is plenty of available parking too.
As far as wedding venues in Fife go, this one makes a fantastic first impression.
Balmule House Setting
Privacy isn’t a major priority for everyone.
In fact I know some venues, which can host as many as three weddings at the same time.
But if you like seclusion, then Balmule House could be a great choice.
The entire mansion, bedrooms and public rooms, plus the gardens and grounds can be taken over exclusively.
This could be for a single evening, or for an entire weekend.
Just you, your family, and your friends.
Parts of the house actually date back to the 15th century, when it was first built as a defensive structure.
The wealthy Wardlaws family, who played a key role in establishing St. Andrews University, were the original owners.
Over the years the estate changed hands, with each successive family adding their own personal touches and character.
More recently, the entire building was meticulously and sympathetically restored.
The goal was to retain the period features, whilst adding modern conveniences.
The results are beautiful, with the perfect balance of old elegance, and modern luxury.
You will have great fun exploring the opulent reception rooms, and the bedrooms are absolutely stunning.
Balmule House Accommodation
The property isn’t massive, and feels more like a large family home than a hotel.
It’s very cosy and much more personal, which is ideal for a wedding.
There are 9 bedrooms in total, and each of them is luxurious, with its own style and character.
Two classic rooms share a bathroom, two further classic rooms have private bathrooms, and then there are four superior rooms with ensuite’s.
Lastly you have the bridal suite.
They are all beautifully decorated, and have excellent views over the estate.
Your guests will love it.
Balmule House Ceremony
Balmule House has a ceremony room, which is suitable for up to 50 guests.
The room is light and airy, with large windows offering views over the countryside.
If you require more space, then a marquee can be put up in the beautiful walled garden.
This option can accommodate up to 120 guests.
There are also various outdoor sites available, if you are willing to play the Scottish weather roulette.
Religious, civil and humanist ceremonies are all welcome.
Balmule House Reception
Your reception can be had inside Balmule House too.
For drinks you can manage up to 100 people.
However your numbers will need to be 50 or less for a sit down meal.
A marquee in the walled garden is a popular choice, as you can seat up to 120 guests comfortably.
And with the tables cleared away, 180 evening guests are also possible.
The walled garden will give you added seclusion and privacy, with great views over the Scottish countryside and back to the house.
It would definitely be my choice.
Balmule House Catering
Balmule House has two catering companies which it works with closely: The Edinburgh Catering Company; and St. Andrews Catering.
One of these will create a menu to suit both your budget and your tastes.
Depending on the theme of your wedding, the latest culinary trends could be used, or perhaps a traditional family favourite.
The choice is yours.
Breakfast will be served to you and your guests, every morning of your stay.
And there is a full working kitchen, which you can make use of yourself, or a chef can be arranged.
Balmule House Grounds
The estate stretches to 30 acres, which will give you plenty of space to explore.
Take a gentle stroll through the trails and into the woodland, and enjoy the stunning countryside views towards Loch Fitty.
If you fancy some country sports, fishing and falconry can be arranged.
There are even facilities enabling you to bring your own horse.
The walled garden also offers a perfect place to relax and enjoy the flowers.
When it comes to your wedding photographs, rest assured that Balmule House has numerous picturesque spots.
These are ideal for creating the perfect image backdrops.
Balmule House Bridal Suite
The Bridal Suite at Balmule House is absolutely beautiful.
It has plenty of space, and great features such as a wood burning stove and stunning chandelier.
Large windows let in plenty of light, and the views over the grounds are really nice.
You also get a massive luxury ensuite, with underfloor heating and double walk in shower.
