Altskeith Country House: 10 Reasons To Choose This Wedding Venue

Altskeith Country House

Altskeith Country House is nestled on the banks of Loch Ard, right in the heart of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

For those of you who have spent some time on Scotlands west coast, you’ll know just how scenic this place is.

Tranquility definitely comes as standard too.

And it’s this tranquility that makes Altskeith Country House an idyllic wedding venue.

The benefits don’t stop there either.

Let’s take a closer look at what this wonderful place has to offer.

Altskeith Country House Location

Altskeith Country House Location

Surrounded by the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, Altskeith Country House occupies an enviable location.

Stunning scenery is available in all directions, whether it be forests, lochs, or open countryside.

In fact you only need to walk a few meters from the house, to be standing on your own private beach.

And yet despite this very rural location, Glasgow is only an hour away by car.

If you are looking for a private escape, within convenient driving distance of Scotlands largest city, then look no further.

Altskeith Country House Exclusive Use

If you have read some of my other articles, you’ll know I’m a big fan of exclusive use wedding venues.

And Altskeith Country House is an absolute classic, giving you, your friends, and your family complete privacy for the duration of your stay.

Small weddings can be hosted mid week, on a non stay basis.

However most people choose to take the house for an entire weekend.

If you can afford to, this is a great way to extend the celebrations, and spend some quality time with all your favourite people.

Altskeith Country House History

The original house was built sometime around 1740, by a wool merchant called John McLaughlin.

He also constructed a row of cottages for his weavers.

Rumour has it that Rob Roy actually hid from the Redcoats, in a secret downstairs cupboard.

However there is little evidence to support this.

Over the years the property changed hands a number of times, and saw life as a hotel and a bar.

It even featured in the move, “The 39 Steps”.

The current owners took possession in 2012, and have spent a considerable amount of time and money upgrading this beautiful building.

Now you can add your own piece of history to it.

Altskeith Country House

As the name probably suggests, Altskeith Country House is more a home than a hotel.

You get a nice homely feeling when you first arrive, kind of like going to a friends house.

The living room has a beautiful log burning stove, and the dining room a coal fireplace.

Interconnecting doors link up the reception rooms, which is ideal for large gatherings.

Most of the windows give you views over the Loch towards Ben Lomond too.

Trust me, after a weekend here you won’t want to leave.

Altskeith Country House Accommodation

The best part about Altskeith Country House, is that it sleeps up to 22 people comfortably.

There are 10 individually designed bedrooms, all decorated to the highest standards.

Eight of them have ensuite bathrooms, most of which have underfloor heating too.

You will find unique furnishings, Egyptian cotton sheets, dressing gowns, and Arran aromatic toiletries.

Non allergic duvets and pillows are available on request.
