Alexander House: 10 Reasons To Choose This Wedding Venue

Alexander House

Alexander House is a beautiful holiday home, located close to the Scottish town of Auchterarder.

With its nine wonderful bedrooms and spacious yet homely reception rooms, it is most commonly used as a retreat for those looking to spend some quality time with family and friends.

The facilities include a swimming pool, hot tub, and games room; and the views towards the Highlands are absolutely stunning.

There is also sufficient space on the grounds to put up a marquee, which means Alexander House can be used as an exclusive use wedding venue.

Let’s take a closer look at what this place has to offer.

Alexander House Location

Alexander House Location

Occupying an elevated position, Alexander House enjoys spectacular views over the Perthshire hills.

The 13th century town of Auchterarder, also known as ‘the town of 100 drawbridges’ (narrow bridges used to lead from the road to the doorways), is just minutes away.

As is the world renowned Gleneagles hotel.

Access is very convenient, with five of Scotlands cities less than an hours drive away.

Although you may require a four wheel drive during the winter months.

And once you arrive, you will find plenty of onsite parking for you and your guests.

Alexander House Exclusive Use

Alexander House Exclusive Use

Alexander House does not function as a hotel, and as a result you will need to book the entire venue exclusively.

This will give you and your guests uninterrupted use of all the bedrooms, receptions rooms, facilities and grounds.

Which is absolutely ideal for a wedding.

I imagine most people would want privacy on their special day.

In addition to this you can take the house for as many days as you want, extending the celebrations and maximising your time with family and friends.

Although Alexander House looks like an old building, it was actually built in 2009 on the site of a ruined farmstead.

It has a lovely little courtyard surrounding a swimming pool, which could be fun in the summer months.

On the ground floor you will find a series of interconnecting rooms: Dining Hall, Drawing Room, Kitchen, Utility Room, and Games Room.

This makes the property very versatile.

There are cosy sofas and wood burning fireplaces to enjoy, plus the snooker table, dartboard, and games consoles will keep your guests entertained.

Despite its rural location, you will also get access to the internet.

Alexander House Accommodation

Alexander House can sleep up to 21 guests in its 9 bedrooms.

There are seven bedrooms on the first floor, five of which have ensuite bathrooms and two that share a bathroom.

Six of the rooms are doubles, some having zip and link mattresses which can be separated to create twins.

One of the rooms is a bunk room, and can sleep up to four adults in its two bunkbeds.

Upstairs on the second floor you will find a twin room and a triple room, both of which share a bathroom.

All of the bathroom facilities have a bath with overhead shower, and the bedrooms are in great condition with nice decor.

There are even beds for two well behaved dogs too.

Alexander House Ceremony

If you like the idea of an outdoor ceremony, then Alexander House could be idyllic.

Situated high on the slopes of the Ochil hills and with views overlooking the Valley of Strathearn, you and your guests would be treated to panoramic vistas.

You can even see the Scottish Highlands in the distance.

For winter weddings or if you would rather be indoors, the house can be used for smaller ceremonies and the marquee for larger affairs.

There are also some beautiful local churches, should you want to have something a little more traditional.

Alexander House Reception

Alexander House Reception

You have two options when it comes to your dinner reception at Alexander House.

For parties of 21 people or less, the Dining Hall can be used with its large circular table.

This room is ideal for more intimate gatherings, and will give your guests use of all the house facilities.

For larger parties of up to 120 people, a marquee on the lawn west of the house is a great choice.

This will allow you to make the best of the views, with Ben Vorlich visible in the distance.

The marquee has a timber floor, four chandeliers, a dance floor, and a private bar.

It also has a nice entrance porch.

Alexander House Catering

Sample menus are on the website, and prices start from £50 per person.

BBQ’s can also be arranged (£25 per person), as can a full Scottish breakfast (£15 per person).

With regards to drinks the local wine merchant will deliver to the house, where there is plenty of refrigeration space.

For dinner receptions had inside the marquee, you will need to organise an outside caterer.

You will find some recommended suppliers on the website.

Alexander House Grounds

Alexander House Grounds

Alexander House only has 4 acres of grounds, but you have the right to roam in Scotland and that provides endless possibilities.

Whether it’s a gentle stroll through the parkland or a fast paced ride on your mountain bike, there’s so much to see and do here.

Medieval towers dot the landscape and Auchterarder’s beautiful main street, with its coffee shops and bars, is only minutes away.

Sit back and enjoy a glass of wine in the hot tub or the heated swimming pool.

Or perhaps just relaxed on the garden terrace overlooking the Perthshire hills.

For the energetic there is even a trampoline and a five aside football pitch.
